Project Brief

This is our project brief for the final major project. This brief covers what we have to do in the assignment in order to pass. Our theme for this project is dystopia so we will have to base our concept around this. The brief is our best tool for this project since it tells us exactly what we have to do in sections.
Understanding the Audience
The requirements of the project is to create a dystopian game which means that the target audience for the project would be fans of dystopia. Our game will be an action-adventure puzzle game so we will have to take that into consideration when thinking of an audience to target since the age range for these games will also be very important. We will also have to decide on an age range before creating the game to insure that we remain within the age range we decide on.
Analyzing the Audience
After researching the typical audience of dystopian media especially video games we decided on an age range of 12+. To stay within this age range we will need to make sure all of the violence in our game is not towards humans or creatures resembling humans which is fine since we plan on having evil robots as the enemies and a robot cat for the player. We will also have to make sure that the gameplay is fitting to a younger audience by making the games balance simple.
Understanding the Scope of the Project
This project requires us to create a 2d dystopian video game and all of the assets for it. We will also have to do written work such as a project diary, reflective journal and design document along this process which will include all of the research, planning and production that we do within the 6 weeks. My roll in the project is level designer and I will help to create features for the game as well.
Understanding the Skills required
The skills that I will require for this project are both soft and hard skills like creativity for designing and coming up with ideas for levels and features, coding skills to create features for the game and team work skills so that I can communicate with our team to a good standard.
Team Dynamic
Our team all have different rolls which are assigned based on their skills in different things. For example, we have two artists in our group who will be doing art for the game since that is what they are best at. The dynamic of our team should be successful because everyone in the team will be working effectively on what they are best at.
What I expect to learn from this experience
I hope to develop lots of skills from this project. Firstly, I expect to develop my team working and communication skills since working as a team is a vital part of this project. I think these would be improved by explaining work to other people in the group and through talking about what we are doing and by synchronizing our rolls to achieve what we are asked for on the brief.
I also expect to develop my technical skills more through the assets I make and research I conduct. As I design levels and code features I will learn more about the technicalities and fine details that make these things better which I hope will help me on further projects and in the future when I enter the industry.
